The Interviewer Asked Me Where I Saw Myself in Five Years
I went for a job interview.
The interviewer asked,
“Where do you see yourself in five years?”
I smiled confidently.
“Hopefully sitting in your chair.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“That’s ambitious.”
I nodded.
“Very.”
He looked at my résumé.
“You have no management experience.”
“Correct.”
“You’ve never managed a team?”
“No.”
“Then why do you think you’ll have my job?”
I smiled.
“I don’t.”
He looked confused.
“Then what did you mean?”
“I meant I hope your chair is still available when I visit.”
He stared at me for three seconds.
Then started laughing.
“You know what?”
“What?”
“You’re hired.”
I smiled.
“Great! When do I start?”
“Monday.”
I stood up.
“Perfect.”
Then he added,
“Your first job is finding a new chair.”
😂 Moral: Sometimes confidence gets you the job. Sometimes it gets you furniture duty.
