“Dessert.”

“You say that now.”
Her mother pointed toward the kitchen.
“We have ice cream in the freezer.”
The girl smiled.
“Exactly.”
Her mother sighed.
“You brought the spoon because you planned this?”
“No.”
“Then why?”
The girl whispered,
“I was preparing for the possibility of finding the ice cream.”
